Christmas markets in Salzburg, Opatija, Ljubljana and Rijeka
DAY 1: Morning departure from Wiesbaden, Hainerberg, J.F. Kennedy Str. corner Washington Str. bus waiting area (off post) at 07:00 am. Departure from Kaiserslautern, Daennerplatz P+R parking lot at 08:00 am. Departure from Ramstein Autohof at 07:30 am (parking fee € 5/day). from Böblingen, Panzerkaserne PX parking lot at 10:30 am. We begin with a relaxed journey via Munich to Salzburg, Austria. After a lunch break we arrive in Salzburg in the afternoon. First we check into our hotel and after some time to freshen up we discover Salzburg and the Christmas market. It began at the end of the 15th century with the Tandlmarkt and soon developed into a real pre-Christmas market, which was called Nikolaimarkt in the 17th century. The Christmas market has existed in its current form since 1974. The specially designed “starry sky” lighting, the rustic huts and the unique atmosphere give it its unmistakable appearance. Overnight stay in our 4 star hotel in Salzburg.
DAY 2: After enjoying a nice breakfast buffet at our hotel, we check out and continue our journey via Austria and Slovenia to Opatija in Croatia. We arrive late in the afternoon and move into our hotel rooms. Our hotel is located just a short walk from the city center, right on the Adriatic Sea and overlooking the Opatija marina. Dinner at the hotel.
DAY 3: Today we start with a journey to Ljubljana. The city is often compared to Salzburg because of the castle hill and the numerous baroque buildings that dominate the cityscape. The western orientation has left its mark on Ljubljana, and the city seems familiar to Central Europeans. Our local guide will walk with us through the lively streets of the baroque and Art Nouveau old town, which stretches below the castle hill on both sides of the Ljubljanica River. The majestic medieval castle complex dominates the baroque core of the old town. Masterpieces by world-famous architect Joze Plecnik can be seen everywhere. After our city tour we have enough time to explore the Christmas market here. In the afternoon, we drive back to our hotel in Opatjia. Dinner in the hotel.
DAY 4: MERRY CHRISTMAS! After breakfast we start our city tour of Opatija with our local guide. We stroll through the festively lit Opatija, which used to be a holiday destination for personalities from the nobility, art and music. A walk along the Lungomare – a promenade that stretches from the old port of Volosko to Lovran – is also a great option. Afterwards, free time to prepare for our festive Christmas dinner in our booked hotel.
DAY 5: After a late breakfast we join an excursion to Rijeka with our local guide. Rijeka attracts with its promenade and the beautifully restored old town. From Trsat Castle you have a wonderful view of the Kvarner Bay, as well as the Franciscan monastery (entrance included) and the church of St. Maria Loreto, both a well-known place of pilgrimage. Afterwards free time at the Christmas market and enjoy some mulled wine and cake in one of the traditional cafés. Return to Opatija. Dinner in the hotel.
DAY 6: After breakfast and check-out we set off for Germany. We make stops for food before returning to our starting points late at night.

SINGLE ROOM SUPPLEMENT: € 200 for 5 nights. Persons booked on share basis must pay single room supplement if no share is available (the single room supplement will be charged after the tour). Share basis means double or triple occupancy
SUPPLEMENTARY COSTS: possible excursion to the Postojna cave (t.b.a.), personal expenses, drinks, tips.
CHILDREN’S PRICE: Children 2 through 11 pay € 949, Children under 2 pay € 400 (baby cot in the hotel costs extra or you can bring your own).
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS: valid US Tourist Passport for military and civilian personnel. Non US-citizensmust meet proper Visa requirements.

Cancellation charges for bus trips: up to 30 days prior to departure, € 100 per person will be charged; 29-15 days prior to departure, 50% of the tour price will be charged; 14-7 days prior to departure, 75% of the tour price will be charged; 6-3 days prior to departure, 90% of the tour price will be charged; 2 days prior to departure until the day of departure, 100% of the tour price will be charged! NO REFUND FOR NOSHOWS!
